What do you use for hose retainers for your 7' long primary hoses? I thought i read some where to use inner tubing, but i'm not sure about that.

Thanks in advanced!

I just make i bight with the excess and tuck it in my waist belt. Have heard of others using loops of bungee cord on the side of their backplates and pitting the bight through there although i think that may present a problem when trying to stow your hose after use.

I manage the 7" hose like this.

No need to retain it except to clip it to the right shoulder D ring when not in use.
I tuck the loop under a pouch on my waistband on the right hip.

I'm not sold on the idea of tucking the long hose under bungee along your tank, you can't easily re-stow it if you deploy or accidentally pull it out of the elastic retaining loops.
I like to practice deploying the long hose and going to my backup early on each dive. It ensures the hose is not caught under anything and also that my backup reg is functioning properly. As I can easily re-stow the hose this is easily done even if I'm paired with an insta-buddy I can do this without interrupting the dive whilst I get help stowing my backup reg.

Nice setup bergersau. Simple and neat. Is that a light stowed on your right hip d ring??

No that photo is from Frogkick diving website.
See my profile for a photo of me..

Hose management is the same though.

Oh, as for the mask on my forehead - I was in distress - it was 35 degrees C in the shade that day and I was geared up in 7mm neoprene in the sun and was waiting for that photo before rolling over the side to cool down. :coolingoff:

Hook, Look up Hogarthian diving/rig/harness/etc. or get the DIR fundies book. It will answer most of your questions and make you think of a few more.

That's not a D-ring on the right hip, it's a weight belt buckle holding the primary light in place. The long hose is routed under the light to keep it from floating around. If you aren't carrying a primary light there, you can just take a bight of the long hose and shove it down behind the waist belt--it won't go anyplace.

(Looping your long hose along the BP or tanks with some type of retainer is sort of old school, unless you're in the UK, where BSAC has issued an edict against Hog looping and primary donation for their classes.)

How does looping that around your body work when you donate your primary? I feel like doing a barrel roll to not be in inches from each other wouldn't be ideal.

It's very simple. You grab the reg with your right hand by the hose near the second stage. Duck your head slightly and it slips right over. Of course you leave the snorkel in the car where it belongs and you don't allow an OOA diver to grab your reg. You donate it to them and keep total control of the air supply.
As you are handing off the reg you slip the back up in your mouth. More than a few recreational instructors don't understand the set up and have no idea how to tell you to use it. Most important is to forget the idea of allowing someone to take any part of your air supply.
