Folks - finally got around to sticky taping the various bits and pieces together!

Ingredients:

1x sj1000 sports cam with housing $89
1x cheap T-6 dive light $20
1x telescopic painters pole $11
1x camera gymbal taken off a crappy go-pole rip off $18
sundry aluminium and cable ties $0

points to note:

-The sj1000 comes with a bunch of mounting options so i just used them. Don't use the 1/4" mounting hole
on the bottom of the housing. Its very flimsy, and will crack the case if stressed - causing a leak.
(a mate found this out the hard way)

-The <ahem> "video" light is just a normal torch with the shiny surface sanded off the reflector.
This is a bit narrow for the cam, and results in vignetting. It is a 0 cost option to get you started -
I plan to adress this in a future upgrade so watch this space.

Videos also to follow as soon as my buddy is fit to dive again.

Thanks johnohuk in fact the later upgrade is inspired by your work .

The inside is almost exactly 40mm diameter so i will make it out of a washer.

Will see how this works 1st.

Cheers,

Good idea, I found the 40mm washer a fraction too big so started to apply the angle grinder. ...got distracted and never finished it...The dodgy looking metal strips I use work just fine...They do dissipate enough of the heat away ...So have left in place. .The metal is so soft you can fabricate something very easily. ..
