I have to come to Singapore on business for a few days. On my return trip to Seattle, I would like to stop off somewhere for 3 days to dive. Preferably not to far off the beaten path but with some great diving.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Go to Tioman Island, Malaysia....great diving spot !!!

Would avoid Tioman in December because of the monsoon.

You could try Phuket - If you can spare 4 days, you could go to the Similans

Similans sound fantastic, but I probably need someplace where I can fly into and out of since it's such a short amount of time.

Has Phuket changed at all. It used to attract ugly Americans and was a tourist trap.

Tioman sounds fantastic except for the monsoon. Looks to be easy to get to with some good diving. Any other suggestions?

Is there any decent diving at Ko Samui or one of the nearby islands?

Thanks.

Samui in December would be an ideal time to go. There isn't great diving around the island itself but Koh Tao is only 45-60 mins away by boat and there's some very good diving out there and at the Chumporn pinnacle. If you go that way try Samui International Diving School, they have a good fast boat so can get you to the sites ahead of others

You could also try Phi Phi island though it may be a touch on the early side of the season for there.

As it'll be holiday season I'd book the flights well ahead of time .

Haven't used these boats but just make sure that they're not cattle vessles i.e. tons of divers and little space.

If you want some comfort check out Mermaid I and Mermaid II at http://www.atlantis-asia.com/. The Mermaid I in particular is a great way to spend a few days at sea. It costs a bit more but you get what you pay for.

A friend also recommended The Junk (http://www.thejunk.com) but I haven't had the opportunity to dive from that one yet
