Last Thursday 21 August, 1 hour from Durrat Al Arus (north of Jeddah) a humpback whale was spotted from the boat. The water that day was 32C on the shore, the following day when I dived off the same boat it was 31C.
I have never heard of humpbacks sighted in the Red Sea, nor in water so hot.
I really don't know the answer to that one, however, I do know that the humpback whales that live here in Alaska go to Hawaii in the winter to mate.....seems like the water over there would be pretty darn warm compared to here!
It will be interesting to see what others have to say about it.
