Can someone clear something up for me?

I was told that your garden-variety male southern stingray is significantly smaller than the female. True or false?

I dive with Southern stringrays regularly at the National Aquarium in Baltimore. Your source is absolutely correct - the females are quite a bit larger than the males. We have a very active Southern Stingray breeding program and just had a group of 10 born just two weeks ago. They are sure are cute as babies.

Indeed stingrays are a female dominated species. Many times the males at Stingray City are mistaken for babies. Occasionally one or two young juvenile females are hanging around, but generally all of the small rays you see there are males. Certainly all of the large ones are female.
