A manatee has wandered hundreds of miles out of its range to Port Mansfield Texas. The manatee seems healthy, even playful, showing its belly and flippers to the delight of locals. The manatee showed up earlier this month and now appears almost daily. It is believed to be about 8 feet long and weighs between 400 and 500 lbs.

If there’s a power plant or other source of warm water outflow nearby, the fun has just begun. You’ll be up to your eyeballs in manatee and any sea grass areas you have will soon be history.

Enjoy them while they’re still new because after a while they start to get annoying when they won’t leave you alone while you’re working under boats.
