About bookofmaya
Biography:
I am just a simple girl in a not so simple world, but I manage to survive. I love music and enjoy guitar. Adore musicians for their creativity and bohemian spirit. My family and I used to go out on the boat every weekend when I was one of the little rascals at ten years. I swam to an island, which seemed near at the time. Almost there, fatigue set in, weeds brushed my legs, panic, joked on water 5 feet below, thought I was going to die. Miraculously floated to top onto sand. Since then I have not been able to look under the water of a swimming pool let alone an ocean. Years later, I faced my fears by snorkeling while on a cruise. Panic seemed to be my hobby that day. A couple of months later I flew to Roatan to receive my padi open water certificate. Those were the most dreadful four days of my vacation. Again, panic would be my loyal dive buddy. I persevered, stared at the face of fear (underwater) and I did it. Now I am wanting to keep pursueing this fear until I scare IT out of my way. I am very passionate in my interests. Being the eldest sister, more often than not I am forced to endure in silence and courage, but sometimes when no one's looking I humbly surrender into the arms of my fragility. I keep thinking myself to immortality, but everytime someone pinches me, I say 'Ouch! .......'That hurts!'

Dive History:
roatan - looking back amazes me how I ever finished it. I had just about everything going against me. My instructor was hung over every morning only racking less than 200dives. On my first dive ever at a reef wall current was so bad I freaked out wanted to return to the boat. She said the hell you are not! I said oh yes I am! She said she'd hold my hand. So I agreed. We descended 30 feet, dived 20 ft. then straight over the fricken 100+ drop wall into the fricken abyss. I did a 190, hog tailed other direction and she wouldn't let go of my hands pulling me back over the wall. A malfunction regulator. Then a switch from aluminum to steel without giving me the heads up. I was at 77 feet suspended with one hand grasping onto my tank for dear life thinking it had come loose while everyone had their backs to me ascends towards shallower depth. I was real proud of myself that day cause I didnÃÕ panic one bit I just waited for someone to notice I was missing.
Certification History:
Hard time relaxing so equalizing was tough. Nose bleeds. Congestions. A student was scared and constantly hovered over me while her fins made a happy home in my face. The resortÃÔ instructor was ill so they hired this lady to instruct their class that week. All in all she taught me some valuable lessons. If I ever was to become an instructor IÃÅ make sure to have patience and alotta compassion. Do my best to give my best to my students, because itÃÔ an experience we carry with us for the rest of our lives.
Certification Level:
padi open water diver
Dive Equipment:
I just bought all new gear. suuuunto cobra 2 w/qd, aqualung legend lx regulator w/combo, my lovely tailored zeagle bcd with neon pink, and my most fond equipment my atomic split fins with spring strap. I can't wait to use it!
