Course Director Matt Awty has been involved in diving education since 1986 when he originally completed his DM and AI here on Utila. Since then Matt has been involved in teaching diving all around the world and at all levels. He originally worked in Thailand and Malaysia as a new Instructor then moved to the Red Sea where he became interested in Technical Diving. After stints in the Mediterranean, various places in the Caribbean, Galapagos among a few he settled back on the island and has been firmly entrenched in the dive community ever since.

Over the past ten years Matt worked his way up to Course Director as well as Technical Diving Instructor, Specialty Instructor Trainer, and Emergency First Response Instructor trainer.
With a passion for the "Deep, Dark, and Spooky", Closed Circuit Rebreathers are the new pursuit. Technical Diving was one of the reasons Matt came back to the island because of its deep walls and offshore sea mounds that make it an ideal place to explore the deep.
