    Biography
I began my diving escapades, in 1996, offshore North Carolina, in the Graveyard of the Atlantic. I dove the U-352 German Submarine and many more casualities of war and storm. I then drifted south and started diving a nitrox mix on the offshore South Carolina civil war shipwrecks. I blended in some offshore Florida drift diving, some Gulf of Mexico Diving, and some Florida Keys reef diving. Then for many years I become hooked on black water diving in Charleston SC. The fossils yielded by the Cooper River were irresistable. I have my treasured framed sea life photos, my fossils, and select sea shells located all over my James Island Home. I am an avid blue water scuba diver, underwater photographer, and fossil collector. I have invested a lot of time diving the Cooper River in search of historical artifacts and fossils. I have made a hobby of collecting fossilized Megalodon Sharks Teeth. There are popular places on the Cooper River to dive with names like Strawberry Landing, Mepkin Abbey, and the French Quarter.

For hunting fossils on land, Lee Creek, in Aurora NC, is a very popular location. Any large mining or digging operation where phosphate is exposed to the surface will yield fossils. Common targets of fossil hunters are spoil banks and piles of dredge deposits. Fossils are in the layers of the earths crust called the Hawthorne, Yorktown, and the Chandler Bridge. Wherever these layers of earth are exposed, you will find fossils. Some rivers cut through these layers. The teeth fall out of the sidewalls as the soil is worn away. If you want to find fossils, learn to recognize phosphate. It is a light gray color. It is a pasty material and clay like when wet. Look for black rock and hard fossilized items (bones, shells, etc) embedded in the light gray clay (phosphate). What you are searching for are rock beds within the phosphate. Where you find phosphate exposed to the surface of the earth, you will find fossils. On the river bottom look for gravel beds. If the beds have black fossilized bones in it and large Megalodon fragments, you are in the right place. This is where you will find the huge, high quality, elusive, pre-historic, Megalodon sharks tooth. Good luck and happy hunting!
    Location
I live on James Island. James is a barrier Island between Charleston S.C. and the Atlantic Ocean. On the north end of the island is where General Beauregard fired the first shot of the American Civil War.

    Lee (and Harold!)

I will be at Folly Beach the end of June.
    Questions:
Is the blue water diving 'worth it' (I will be coming up DIRECTLY from the Keys... I would add)

What is this 'blackwater' fossil diving? should I try that? I will be staying with my family (all non divers) but might slip off for a day.

Do you know how to "creatively bond" with another diver underwater? ;-)

I have found an awesome resource I think you'll really love. Here's the link: The Underwater Channel | Home You'll want to download Babelgum to get the full experience when viewing these videos. It rocks. Okay - I'm going to be productive and get back to cleaning now. xoxo
