    Sounds like a great summer! As far as dive shops, where you are is about 3 1/2 hours from where I am, and 4 hours from the shop I DM out of. I suggest putting something on The Great Lakes Wrecking Crew section to get some info a little closer to where you're going to be. As far as the diving up here, well....it ain't the Keys! LOL Actually it's pretty good - just different. Most of us who are serious about it have drysuits, though they're not necessary. A good 7 mil suit works. Water temps run from 30's to 70's. In warmer water, there's almost always a thermocline where temps will be in the 40's. Lake Michigan is almost always in the 40's for any but the really shallow wrecks.

    There's a pretty good quarry (Haigh in Kankakee) that's not too far from where you're going to be. Most shops around here use that for training in the weekends. I'll often go there during the week for a dive if we're not going out on Lake Michigan.
