    Sam... 27... Man, do I suddenly feel young (my compliments by the way)...well we called at a black grouper... but people keep changing names... we also used to call a fish a "black Snapper", and I see that is now something different (mangrove I believe).

    Anyway.. we only saw them in the Pacific when there was cold water.. around 55 degree water.. happens at the same time the middle of the Pacific was warm...Mine was the smallest one I could find...they were black.. and giant sized...don't know where they went when the water was warm...

Veteran diver; began in 1940s with goggles, first SCUBA dive 1951, Veteran Instructor, Professional Diving witness for over 50 years (most famous defense of dive flag-1963.) Spear fishing record holder. Helment Qualified.

Author 150+ articles, and four dedicated columns; Discover Diving, Southwest diving news, Arizona Diving news and Historical diving. First dedicated News paper column. First guest editor Skin diver Magazine, Cover SDM; Sea food Cheif in Scuba Pro diving and Snorkling, Co Author "Orange County diving" in "Diving West" (first west coast dive guide.)

Diving consultant to Voit, US Divers, and Sea Tec and several others long gone and forgotten.
