Been diving for just over a year and still green with lots to learn. Living in Indonesia is great with tons of fantastic dive sites close by! I've had some bad experiences (equipment failure, buddy multiple equipment failure, buddy OOA, co2 toxicity), but what doesn't kill me makes me smarter right.
I dive in a balance bcd (which is a bugger to get the dumps to work properly and drives me a touch insane), an xtx50 (which is a fantastic reg! Can't say enough good things about it), oceanic VT3 air integrated computer + backup analog, hard booties (for shore entry) or soft booties, 3mm shortie and of course my lucky poker.
Still working on perfecting trim and buoyancy (I have floaty legs apparently), navigation (my weakest skill), developing comfort in big ocean waves, and increasing my fitness so that pesky co2 tox won't happen again while fighting strong currents.
