Hey Kalani,

I suddenly have La Buf on the brain and was perusing your post. Your fish could be a Cortez Chub, aka Chopa de Cortes, aka Kyphosus elegans.

Some of the 'net images I saw reflected color variations and a gold coloration is one of them. None showed the tail as the only yellow part but the shape is correct for a chub, anyway!
