    jaworland,

There are multiple reefs off of Playa, some have more current than others. A good dive op, like Jason of Fantaseadive Scuba Diving, Fishing, Dive Packages, and Extreme Sports in Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Riviera Maya, Yucatan, Mexico and Caribbean (look for his posts on this board as well as his great videos) will know what the conditions are as well as be able to assess your abilities and work with you. My kids and I have dove with Jason on two different vacations for several days each time. These were our first drift dives and they were fun filled, comfortable, exhilirating experiences. We have done several dives off of Cozumel, also drift dives, with the added of thrill of drifting along deep coral walls. Don't be afraid of the drift. Practice good buoyancy control, don't over weight yourself, and go along for the ride. It's fantastic. Enjoy your trip and give us a trip report when you get back.

Hey Stas, spearfishing with tanks is not allowed in Playa. You can still free dive spearfish though. If you go to Playacar fase 1 and go to the beach there that usually has no one on it, there is great spearfishing out there. I usually go there during the warmer months because that means no Bull Sharks. Haha the waters are a little too sharky for my right now.

If you are still looking for a dive op let me know, again we would love to show you some great diving.

My family and I are staying at the Gran Porto Real when we go to Playa on July 12. We'll be there for ten days, and I'm hoping to get 6 -7 dives in while I'm there. Neither my wife or daughter dive, so I'm hoping that I can get my dives in before lunch so I have the afternoons to spend with them. I've contacted Yucatek Dives, but I'm certainly open to suggestions. I'm AOW certified and would like to get at least one cenote dive in while I'm there as well. Suggestions?

There are multiple options available to you for dive guides while you are in PDC. I've dove with Jason of Fantaseadive on multiple trips. He'd be my choice again when/if I return to PDC. You'll get personal attention, no cattle boat mentality, and he'll get to to cenotes as well.

    Have a great trip!
