What other documentation is required to get into Mexico for a 15 year old other than a birth cert? She has a school picture id but it only says the name of her school on it. Will that be okay?

If accompanied by parents of the same last name, an official birth certificate, e.g., raised seal & whatnot, is sufficient.

Have fun.

If you have the time to get one, go ahead and get her a passport. It will make things much easier now and open up the world to you.

Mexico has some "unusual" rules regarding travel by minors. If they are not accompanied by both parents, a notorized letter of consent will be required.

The U.S. Department of State has a listing of travel regulations on their website for every country you've ever heard of and some that you haven't. Take a look for yourself. Dept of State

Specifically, the entry for Mexico includes the following:

"Notarized consent from parent(s) required for children under age 18 traveling alone, with one parent, or in someone else's custody."

Hope she enjoys her trip.

Thanks for the info, She will be traveling with both of us so hopefully the birth cert is all she'll need.

Same thing.. a birth certificate and picture ID will do. But again, I urge you all to go ahead and get your youngsters a passport. You are much less likely to run into any kind of hassle from some petty pointy-headed power-mad pissant immigration puke who just wants to give you a hard time "just because he can" if you use passports rather than birth certificates.
Been there, seen it...

Too late for passport here. We are leaving in 5 days! Yea!

I emailed FunJet and asked the question for teen id requirements and they said children under 16 are NOT required to have a photo id. We had already got here a state id before I received the info. Any way better safe than sorry!:)
