    Question Staying in Playa

We have a free place to stay in Playa and want to put together 5 days of diving with 3 in cozumel, one in playa and one in cenotes. We are both rescue certified with about 1000 dives each. We also prefer Nitrox. Any and all recommendations welcome.

I can recommend Go Cenotes Go Cenotes. It is a small operation based in playa, with great people working there. The owner, Peter is a very accomplished instructor, and everybody who works there is as well.

In Coz, I dive with Raul Platas with Bottom Time Divers or Jeremy Anchel with Living Underwater. Small fast boats with small groups of divers. Long bottom times and long surface intervals. Both can get you nitrox. Both guys have great personalities and speak english. They take great care of you and will rinse and store your gear overnight.

You will most likely need to get to the Caleta marina on Coz by 7:30 a.m.

    In Playa,
    http://fantaseadive.com/

Jason is awesome! I'll be down there the 28th to the 7th of Dec. Last year I did 2 coz, 2 playa, and 1 cenote. Originally I had planned for a 3rd Coz day but switched it too Playa. I like Coz, but I see more critters in Playa. Structure's better in Coz by a little bit. Plus... Coz is a long day with the ferry rides.

Jason also Does Coz dives. 9am ferry over, back on the 3-4pm ferry, nice lunch after the dives

    new diver in playa/cozumel

I am a newly certified diver who will be going to stay 10 days in playa Jan 16th. I would like to spend some days diving. Have heard that drift diving in Cozumel is a whole different game. Have seen Cenotes in the area a year or two ago. What type of diving in which area would be preferential for a newbie and can someone recommend someone to dive with?
I was thinking of just bringing my booties, fin and mask and renting the rest of the equipment! Sound do-able?

    Thanks!

You may have some trouble finding open heel fins in Playa. If you find I place, let me know.

I would recommend dive with Phocea Riviera Maya, located in downtown, by the beach and the 10th street. They are very professional and very well organized dive shop.
    Cheers.

    Exhausting schedule

I know you want dive Coz because it's GREAT diving but the way to dive Coz is to stay on Coz. I think that the 3 days there will leave you too tired to enjoy your vacation. The daily trip back and forth on the ferry, combined with taxi rides to/from the Calleta will make for long and tiring days. With 1000+ dives each I can understand why Playa may not be your first choice. Consider 3 days Cenote and 1 day Coz and 1 day Playa. You can even even do 2 Cenote and 2 Playa if you request the sites. I think that a day for 'Los Arcos + 2nd shallow' and a day for 'Punta Venado + Sabalos' is a good two days at Playa. Both Los Arcos and Punta Venado are seldom visited as they are further sites from Playa beach and operatorws avoid them unless requested (gas and time involved). I know GeoFish will take you and they don't charge any extra. There are so many great Cenote choices that 2 days there are considered a must by many divers. Request 'The Pit' and 'Mystic River'. Next trip make it a Coz trip and spend the week there. Keep an eye open for specials...Hotel Cozumel runs Dive/AI packages frequently.

Fantasea Divers in Playa, and have them take you to Paamul. Right next to Fantasea (Calle 2 at the beach) is La Tarraya restaurant. Oldest in Playa and a great seafood meal for el cheapo!
We dive exclusively with Aldora Divers in Cozumel. Last Year we dove Palancar deep and were able to spend 70 minutes on the bottom with their 120 tanks before the heavy breather in our group timed out. Big tanks with LOOONG bottom time.
