Quick Trip to Cancun-Advice

Both daughter and myself are advanced open water certified. Thinking about going to Cancun on spur of moment, traveling light. Would like to do two or three days of diving, with guide. We would need to rent some equipment, possibly all equipment. Recommendations? I don't have a problem spending a bit extra to get better equipment, and service. Nitrox a plus for me but not daughter.

Would welcome advice. I am assuming that it doesn't really matter about my choice of hotel. Would normally lean to Ritz or Marriott just for frequent guest benefits. Problems?

As an elite, you get very little benefits from the Ritz or any other of the Marriott resorts. We just stayed at the Casa Magna in Oct and the JW in Dec as a Platinum elite . Other than an upgraded room, 2 daily coffees and free Internet, nothing else is offered as an elite. No club access in the Ritz or the JW.

If you are using points, I would stay at the Casa Magna. That is your best bang for the buck. If you are paying, there is a great rate for free breakfast included. It is a nice buffet and well worth it with the package. The buffet was better at the Casa Magna than the JW even though the JW is considered a nicer location.


As for the diving, We always go with Scorpio divers. We have dived with them many times and I tend to stay with a dive op that I like until proven wrong. That hasn't happened yet. I always bring my own gear but Scorpio has good equipment and looks pretty new. Last time we couldn't get Nitrox in Cancun but were able to get it in Puerto Moreles with Scorpio Divers.

Unfortunately it´s not possible to get Nitrox tanks in Cancun, but in case you want to do some cenote dives (THIS IS NOT CAVE DIVING) we can provide it to you.
