You have a lot of options and didn't give a lot of details.

My first shot would be to check with Playa del Carmen info

If you are familiar with Cancun, the Collectivo's, or there is an ADO bus that makes hourly runs from CUN to PDC

    Hey Jim how are you?
    There are options,
    -car rental
    -public bus
    -taxi

BUT CHECK WITH THE ROYAL RESORTS THEY I BELIEVE HAVE A SHUTTLE THAT BRINGS GUESTS TO ALL THEIR HOTELS, AND THE ROYAL HACIENDAS IS DOWN CLOSE TO PLAYA.

Here is something you might try. There is an ADO bus that runs from the airport to the bus terminal in PDC at Juarez and 5th. About as close as you can get to the Coz ferry and there are many dive ops within a 1/4 mile.

No need to go back to the airport in Cancun to catch the bus in Playa.
Frequent buses run along the zona hotelera where your hotel is located and will bring you to the downtown ADO bus station, where you can catch a bus (approx 1h to 1h15) to Playa del Carmen.
That's the cheapest option (about 4 USD one way), but if you are loaded with dive gear, you might prefer to catch a cab. In which case, agree on the fare with the driver before getting in.
If you do take the ADO bus, make sure to bring something warm (sweater) as they sometimes overuse the A/C.
