Akumal Area, Trip!
My wife and I are going to the Akumal area for our honeymoon and want to dive. We decided to stay at the Grand Colonial Resort and Spa. The travel agent said that there was a Scuba Caribe right onsite. Has anyone anything to say about them and is there certain places to dive that we should not miss. It's our first trip to that area and want to make it one to remember.
Thanks in advance.
Definitely do a cenote dive (Dos Ojo, Bat Cave & Taj)! Not sure where the Grand is, but the dive shops at the resorts we have stayed at down there are almost double the price of the local dive operations. We dove with AquaTech on Aventuras Akumal (www.cenotes.com) and they were the best deal around on the prices, and were one of the first to map the cenotes and caves there.
You MUST do a cenote dive while you are in Akumal. Check out Aquatech at Villa DeRosa. www.cenotes.com Ask for Gonzalo Vaccalluzzo as your guide. He's very patient and very thorough. Grand Cenote, Dos Ojos, Taj Maha are all within a few minutes of each other and have fairly extensive cavern dives.
I just returned Saturday from my 3rd annual trip to Akumal and had a great time. Look up Gonzalo, you'll be well take care of.
