Diving close to Puerto Vallarta? Cabo? preference?

My husband and I are open water certified, but fairly new. we have about 30 dives each (Belize and Roatan). our friends want us to go with them to Mexico, but the 2 time-share options are Cabo and Puerto Vallarta. Mid-May. we are hoping to get at least a few dives in. is access/quality to the diving better at one over the other? thanks!
