I think these deep bounce dives occur more often than any of us rec divers imagine. Unfortunately this one went south big. I heard they went somewhere around 400' from a reliable source. That was the issue, they had planned on between 250-300'.

The sad thing is most folks may never have heard about this if they just had some air hanging at 100' or even 30'. That maybe the stupidest part. Its not that hard to hang a few tanks at depth for emergencies. They sure needed them on this dive.

It looks like this ended in 1 death. There are messages on both Tripadvisor & the Cozumel forum saying she passed last night
Very sad news: With permission of April (opal's mom). Last night about 10:59 p.m. (est) Opal passed with family by her side...

I don't have a program that will do it . . . but I know some technical divers run a profile for 100/100 gradient factor as a last-ditch escape profile (pure Buhlmann). Can anybody run that, and see what it comes up with for a bounce dive to 300 feet? (I want to know what it says about the dive they planned, not the dive they did. I can't imagine anybody being foolish enough to PLAN a bounce to 400 feet.)
