Posting my first hand account for the benefit of those that might wish to consider adding a PLB to there gear. Although this was a technical dive situation in which most of the reader here would not be engage in the recommendation for the purchase of a PLB apply to all diver whom dive in the ocean. I have done a large number of recreational dives including locations such as SE Florida and Cozumel in which strong currents can arise.

Does anyone know in which countries PLB (personal locator beacon) cna be picked up by the authorities? I dive mainly in Thailand and would be intrested in getting one if I knew it would work there

A google search of Personal Locator Beacon or EPIRB will turn up more information then you have time to read.

I have a Spot Finder (SPOT SATELLITE MESSENGER :: HOME PAGE) - for shallower dives (100ft or so) the otterbox 8000 is the right size - deeper you would need watertight case rated for the depth - coverage is pretty good - unless you are in the southern part of Africa.
