That's awesome! I've never found/seen a sharktooth before. I dive right there at Veterans Park fairly frequently, including this coming Friday night. I may have to keep my eyes on the lookout for a souvenir like yours. Thanks!

I know a guy that dives around here, in fact I think he is an instructor.
I haven't seen him in about a year.
As for the tooth
It is probably a one in a million that washed up. I have been looking daily since, even made a screen sieve but it doesn't work well without a method to fill it.

Why do you keep thanking everyone's posts? It's weird. Please don't thank this post. I'd rather be thanked for actual helpful posts.

One piece of advice on the computer... someone suggested a computer that will do nitrox, now I bet you are thinking, "why do I need that starting out?". After diving a bit, you might find that you are very good on your air and would like the extra bottom time if you have the air, this means you will want to get nitrox certified. If you are going to go ahead and get a computer to begin with and not just do gauges and tables, then in the long run it's better to get it ready for nitrox too. Better to spend the wee bit more now than to have to replace later.

As far as the bells and whistles on the BC goes, intergrated weights are really something to consider. Some people don't like the weight belt (I know I don't) and having the integrated weights are great.

All in all though, rent for awhile and see how the equipment works and then decide for yourself what "bells and whistles" that you really want. With scuba gear, it can last a lifetime if you take care of it right, so putting in a little extra money when you buy it might save you in the long run...

I'm jumping into this late, and hate to hijack the thread at this point - however, the statement above needs some clarification. 1) We sell to authorized dealers - if you've found one selling our gear that is not, let me know. 2) How do you verify an authorized dealer? Pretty easy - our dealer locator - if they're not there, they're not authorized. Sweet. I'm no expert, but it looks like a great white shark tooth.

Like a previous poster, I regularly dive there. That would be a cool siting.

I would rather rent a reg than buy a cheap one. As for a bc, I can't see spending on bells and whistles.
Thanks much for the input
Consider a back plate and wing for a BC. In hindsight, I wish I had known such a thing exists and I would have never spent the money on a jacket style BC. BP/W is cheaper and you are more likely to use it for a looooooooong time. My setup was under 470 dollars, way cheaper than most "bells and whistles" BCs. Other than that, rent, rent, rent...

Yeah...ya needs a snorkel...but DON'T make the same mistake I did and buy one that costs too much...just get a tube....you'll thank yourself!

I started with my personal gear, then got a wetsuit for my OW classes (cheaper than renting at the time...LDS didn't have anything that fit me right, and the quarry only had FJ's at $20. a piece for two days $100. to buy vs. $80 to rent was justified)

I then bought a computer (Nitrox capable...glad I did) During the winter the LDS had a clearance sale, so I bought my regs and a good robust BCD...I've since replaced most things (on my third mask, second set of fins and booties, got a back plate BC, as well as a folding snorkel! if I need it it's there. but not in my way) and have bought my own cylinders, a 40cf stage bottle and other ancillary gear (reel, hood, gloves, lights, slate etc.)

It's a gradual process.....just shop around, and make sure that what you DO get is servicable locally, and easily...you'll thank yourself. Have fun!!!
