Hey all,
This is my first post in the forums (though I have been watching them for a while), which is quite good timing as I have just finished my Junior Open Water Course today with Cydive, Paphos, Cyprus.
I finished it in 3 days after have originally been taking the scuba diver but deciding to upgrade as I was enjoying it so much (3 days = total time taken for Scuba Diver + Open Water course)
After been given my junior temporary padi card and a form i've got to send off, I am wandering if next year, padi automatically send me my adult card as I become 15 or if I have got to send a form off to them.
Sorry for the short post but I am it on my netbook on a limited internet connection. I will be able to make longer posts when I return to Sunny Scotland!
Congratulations Firthy on your JOW certification! It is great to have you aboard the diving community, "Welcome!!" Your training sounded awesome and I can tell you are interested in doing more diving. I challenge you to get involved with a local dive club or dive shop to help you discover your local scene. As divers we progress by training and practice makes perfect! Dive as much and as often as you can always perfecting skills and in a safe environment! Study and research diving and set some goals for your diving future. There will be unbelievable options open to you as you have started at an early age. Have fun and safe diving to you, keep us posted on your progress! Good luck!
CamG Keep diving....keep training....keep learning!
Thanks for the kind words CamG and catra8104.
My local diving scene is unfortunetly mainly commercial diving due to living in Aberdeen with the oil industry and all, hence I did my training in warm sunny Cyprus!
There is one dive center though who I'll take a look at when I get back, but I'm guessing it will be drysuit diving... more training
Before I go home I am gonna sneak another dive in, properbly the White Star Wreck, off Paphos which seems good though a google search of it comes up with results of a near fatality there 8 months ago, but to be fair that was the diver not the site but I still pretty edgy but i'm sure i'll be fine
Assuming PADI, I don't think getting the upgraded card will be automatic. I think you have to send in a PIC requesting the upgrade and pay a fee. Talk to your LDS
Richard,
Typical PADI with yet more fee's :P Yeah, I will drop by my LDC when I get home and see what is going on with the local dive scene, I imagine it will be pretty dead in the winter though
Fritts,
Enjoy your first dives, I am doing my first non-training dive on Saturday, then flying home on the Sunday (I checked the spacing which is 25h 15m if we takeoff when supposed to) Now that's last minute diving!
Congratulations Firthy!! Welcome to the awesome world of diving. Try to not look at future training like school. The specialty classes are much more fun than open water was. Less book work and more diving.
You might be surprised by how much diving there may be in your area in the winter. Here in alaska some of the best diving is in the cold winter when the visability clears up. As for the c-card, Padi does not send you a card automatically. But hey when you get your advanced and rescue your JOW will be just a fond memory of all the awesome things you have seen.
