Make Your Own Logbook?

Hah, I know it sounds crazy..and it probably is..
But I'm a very crafty person, and I don't like having something so many other people have.
I know it probably wouldn't be a big deal for those who were just doing SCUBA for the fun of it, but what about those who wanted to be more than just a SCUBA diver..like Divemaster, or something?
I'm planning on taking my learning as far as I can go, and was talking to my instructor over the weekend about making my own dive book. Everything would be included, IE Dive Time, Max Depth, Bottom Time, etc.
I was just wondering how it would be looked at if I took a homemade dive logbook to another instructor to see that I had a certain amount of dives for my next certification.
I don't want to make it, and they not accept it because it wasn't made by SDI, PADI, NAUI, etc.

Thanks in advance for any answers..And sorry if my post is cluttered, I didn't really know how to present my question..it all came out at different times, haha.

sure you can make your own. Lots of people do it.


search the forums here and you'll see a lot of pages people have made their own and posted here.


A homemade logbook is often better and more detailed than a "agency" one. Instructors won't give you any problems over it.

I just edited the above post and inserted a bunch of example posts that people attached log book pages in that they made themselves. you might be able to find something you can use there, or to give you ideas to build you own with.

I made my own log book a long time ago. The typical commercial book had a lot of space devoted to things I didn't need, and nothing to a number of things I wanted. So I made my own. No problem.

If you can write.... a log book doesn't have to be "forms" . A journal or diary will do
just as well. As long as it has the basic info.......

Some companies do a pretty good job of this activity. I use dive-logs, the nitox computer log has all I need with room to take notes. Dive-Logs.com - Scuba dive log refill packs, logbooks, log book stamps, and accessories Many of the "custom" pages referenced above look a lot like the dive-logs sheets I've been using since 2004.

there are also some decent i-pod / iphone apps out there, some may have too much too little for each person, but I use one called "dive log" and have been pretty happy with it, I also keep a paper one,,although people tell me after you get to 100 dives you lose interest in the log... I would like to get there sooner if work wouldnt keep getting in the way of my dive life...
