Hello emander and welcome, both to scuba diving and SB. The proper way to seek advice on equipment would be to start a dedicated thread, as this thread discusses ways to choose a good SCUBA class, and you're already in one . Still, some good advice that was given to me by SB members are to not hurry to buy equipment, before you've had a chance to try different brands/configurations and before you've had a fair idea as to the type of diving you will be doing. Bying equipment on an impulse can lead to expensive mistakes... rent for a while, search SB (it's full of threads on choosing equipment) and take your time. Do start your own thread, ask your questions and you will get more specific advice.

Welcome, emander.
I know something about Aqualung regulators. I've been diving with Aqualung regulators for 25 years and still own 5 of them, of which all work perfectly, including the one that is 38 years old. 3 of these I use regularly.
What advice are you seeking? Maybe it would help us to help you if we knew a bit more about how you plan to dive.
I too would suggest you rent for a while and make purchases as you gain experiance it will help you avoid costly mistakes an a closet with some not so used scuba equipment.
The only problem with mixing brands is you miss out on the great deals if you buy the whole package. I just purchased 2 new "complete" sets I didnt have a selected brand in mind other than it needed to be serviced locally which limited me to the brands the LDS sold.
Here is what I purchased
(already had mask, fins, snorkle, wet suit)
2 - Delta 4.1 DVT regs
2 - Neo Octo
1 - Excursion BCD
1 - Hera BCD
2 - Atom 2 DC with Transmitters
2 - Reg bags
2 - Rambo style titanium dive knifes (they threw these in)
All of this came to $2760. To part it out it comes to over 4k
According to the salesman he said he could give me this price because it was all Oceanic.
I hope it was a good price, but, in reality, I am happy to have my own gear. I dont recheck the prices because I am sure the prices will always come down.
The last cool part about having my own gear, and I know everyone told me this. We are already looking at doing more diving to use the cool new toys
I'm a newbie diver too and have resisted buying gear after heeding the advice of experienced SB'ers. I've been trying out different brands of gear when I go on trips and there are some which have been a mismatch.
If you have in mind on what gear to get, how about renting them from your LDS or borrowing from friends for a try out session before purchasing? Try different brands and you may be mildly surprised to discover how well they fit! That said, the temptation to buy gear just increases with every trip! Have fun diving!

WOW, I just went to Oceanic's website, the regs are 600 a piece and the two PDCs' are 1000 each with the transmiter. Where is this dive shop I want to buy...
Greetings emander and welcome to Scuba Board. It is great to hear of your training and soon OW certification. I would like to commend you on your choice of gear as well Aqua Lung is a great manufacturer. I have used their regulators and they are excellent.
I personally love the Legend series and would recommend them easily with no reservation. The diving you plan to do will help you to determine what gear you should look at. I always recommend to TRY BEFORE YOU BUY if at all possible and most dive shops when they are selling a set of gear will allow prospective buyers to try gear out.
Good luck and keep asking questions to help you research your options for gear choices.
CamG Keep diving....keep training....keep learning!

Don't forget to factor in that the $2,760 is Canadian $$ which, when converted to US is about $12.50
