I did it with a good friend of mine a few years ago. He and his wife were vacationing with my wife and me in Belize. I did the DSD with him, and we actually had a pretty good dive because he took to it so naturally and didn't breathe his tank down quickly. In this case the instructor knew I was an instructor myself, but I don't think that made any difference. It was fun being with him and being able to talk about the experience later.
Last time we went on a cruise we took the Discover Scuba,I am an OQ diver she was not dice qualified.I told the instructor and ass went well. He was very happy to have me there andI stayed back from the bunch. They even signed my log book. It was up the instructoron how he wanted to handle it, and he was more than happy to have another setof eyes just in case. As aside note she was so happy with the dive she signed up just as soon as we gotback for her class. She is now an OW diver and goes diving almost every weekend!!
Just interested from a general point of view, if you are qualified to dive solo (i.e. without being accompanied by a DM rather than without a suitably qualified buddy) why do you count towards the number of people on the DSD?
I can dive within my limits (35m) with a similarly qualified or higher qualified diver and don't need a DM with me, so if I accompanied or followed a DSD dive why should I count against the DSD limits? Anyone know the rationale? - Happy New Year P
