So finished day 3 of the pool today. Went over mask flood and clear, removal and put back on and clear, bouyancy technique, some rescue simulations and in water gearup. It is taking a few tries to get used to relaxed breathing when removing the mask. All in all having an absolute blast. Is there a technique anyone can recommend when removing the mask and keeping a steady breathing rhythm? I stutter a bit when it first comes off but after a breath or 2 regain rhythm.

Sounds like things are going good for you...that's cool. What is your remaining class schedule gonna be like?
We have I believe 2 more pool days then the final exam. I believe it is emergency controlled ascents, doff and don, and something else I can't quite remember. Then it's a little time off cause its freezing in NJ right now. Then open water at Dutch Springs in PA. I wish it was warmer so we can get to quarry sooner however. Getting excited.
Will be diving the Red Sea Soon; But Not Soon Enough!

I would also suggest after your initial Open Water Certification courses, to do a few dives and test what you have learned. See what others are doing. Then take the more advanced or speciality courses. If you take your OW and jump right away into the Advance courses, IMO, you do not retain as much overall; the to courses blend togeather before you have had the opportunity to reafirm what you have learned in the first course.
But regardless, don't stop at just the OW...keep learning and keep diving.
Eventually I want to do aow but as you said would like at least 10+ dives under my belt before doing that. So far I am hooked however there are a few basic skills I need to polish a tad. Need to work on buoyancy a bit and a little more mask clearing.
Still working through the scheduling portion - been reading through my book and I'm now on the fourth time through it. Looking forward to getting some dates set.

I guess I spoke to soon.... Found out yesterday that my classes are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Woohoo!
Awesome!!! Just found out today that my final exam and final pool session are Sunday. Then the wait is on for the open water portion of the course. Time to really learn these naui dive tables lol
Okay, so no pics on this one, but at least a little report. I know, I know, there's a few of you out there that would like to see a pic of me with a tank on my back! So here's a little teaser...
Did my first confined water training last night at Dolphin Scuba Center in Sacramento. I'd have to say that it was quite the experience.
The pool was a little crowded because there were 3 classes going on in it at the same time - 2 OW classes (mine and one other) and also a rebreather class. I was a little nervous swimming around because I didn't want to run into anyone - and because of that it affected my buoyancy (I'd end up holding my breath (okay, I know that's a big no-no), and would end up near the surface.
The mask clearing portion was a trip as well, but I finally got it down. Friday I'll be working on the Buoyancy portion (doing the fin pivot and a few other skills.
Overall it's been a blast, but I can see that I have a lot to learn. Working on the schedule for the cert dives at the local lake (looks to be Folsom - but I don't know the exact location yet, so more to come there) Possibly Saturday and Monday since I'll have Monday off.
Well I guess that's a little longer than a teaser!
