    Certs with different organisations

    Hi,

I recently finished my AOW and did it as well as my OW with SSI. Now I am thinking about doing Rescue Diver as well and wanted to know how it works if you want to get certified with other organisations. Currently I am in Malaysia and most places here tend to do PADI so I was wondering if it is still possible to do a PADI Rescue Diver course even though I am ceritfied through SSI to begin with? I wouldn´t have to start all over with PADI would I? (Kind of would complicate things for me as well later on as PADI is the norm back home in Sweden).

    Thanks

    /C

It should not be a problem.

You might find an instructor or shop that would want you to do that. If you do, keep looking.

My OW instructor at an SSI - LDS was a PADI certified AOWI.

The shop wanted the best available instructors - not a specific organization.

All dive associations have agreed on all standards thru divemaster after that they go thier own way. That said you can be a NAUI DM and do a PADI IDC etc.

Ah that is mighty good to here. I was a bit worried for a while, didn´t really think it would be a problem but nowadays you never know. In Sweden for exemple where I usually live everything is so extremely regulated that it wouldn´t have surprised me if I had to stick to one organisation. To give you an example (don´t know how it is elsewhere but to me this law is stupid) if you own land you are under no círcumstances allowed to ride a terrain vehicle like a dirt bike, 4WD, quad bike or anything with a motor on it unles a) you do it for work for example farming or b) you do it while hunting to collect the dead animal you just shot. I think there is an equally stupid C as well

I mean come on if it is my land I´d say it is in my own interest to keep it in good shape right?
Another gret swedish law is heritage tax. If I inherit money , property .etc from a dead relative I have to pay ****loads of taxes for that to the point where some people run up huge debts because they can not pay the taxes for inheriting something. Great law isn´t it?

Oh enough *****ing about politics, it´s time for some brekkie

We are doing Naui now, and have people all the time who are either Padi or SSI certified, and then want to take one of our classes. It's really not a problem... We just talk slower to them.
