    Thumbs up Thursday Night Dive

Looks like gmbaker and I might head up to Pebble Beach for a night dive or two after work on thursday. If anyone's interested in joining us, let me know. Details to follow when we firm up the plans.

    The plan

We plan to meet at the gas station (Shell?) off I-95 exit 27 in Waltham at 7:00 and head up from there. We're going to Pebble Beach in Rockport, and hope to be in the water before the sun has completely set.

I'll be driving an old white Subaru wagon, gmbaker will have a red Acura.

    Sound good?

Spectre, is that where you saw the torpedo rays?

Are we sure that was a torpedo ray?

I have no idea so I'll just ask...I thought that was just a skate, as opposed to a ray. Was what we saw indeed a torpedo ray?

    Torpedo vs. skate

Torpedo rays have three fairly sharp fins on the tail [well, two and then one on the tip]. Winter skates only have two fins on the tail, and the fins are rounded... Torpedo skates are rounder hand have shorter tails...

    But in both instances...

But the spotted coloring on their backsides is the same in both varieties?
