Trying to squeeze a dive over the holiday weekend w/ my brother and need some advice/guidance. Staying at cottage in Dennisport w/ family and would like to shore dive in area maybe Corporation Beach or Scargo Lake. Any helpful hints? I've been to both areas many times before, but never for diving. Thanks.
Boring. Diving Corp. beach is dangerous. Divers have been known to drown diving there. The site is so boring, divers have fallen asleep underwater and their regs fall out of their mouths.
seriously, if dive, you should dive at high tide. it's very shallow (10-15 feet) Lots of sand, grass. You need to swim out far to see any rocks.
Better off diving Hathaway pond. search NELD section for Hathaway for info. There is a sunken boat, Old Saab under water and lots of Fr. water Trout.
I kind of got that impression from the times I went there as a beach goer. I swam a very long way out at high tide and I could still see the bottom at the end of the roped off swimming area. We won't waste our time. I've heard Hathaway Pond is good, but I've never dove in fresh water. Thanks.
I took your advise and did a site search for Hathaway's Pond. In one of the older postings, I read something regarding a higher rate of ear infections/bacteria amongst divers. Any new info on that? What about water temps for fresh water? I imagine that the pond would still be warm. And finally, how much weight should I drop going from salt to fresh? Thanks again.
I never had ear problems. It's clean, especially now. It is cold though at depth. Below 55! (spring fed) One guy once tried diving without gloves/hood at height of summer. Big mistake
Thanks for the info. That's what I figured regarding the weight. Never got wet, though. My bro insisted upon a lobster dive, so we decided on STB for Monday morn. What a mistake! Checked the marine forecast that morn and didn't even get anywhere near a dive site. It was a good call -- Corporation Beach was the worst I've ever seen it. The windsurfers were in heaven. Oh well, next time I'll push for Hathaway Pond a little harder.
