I am a fairly recently cert'd OW/EANx diver from CT and am interested in doing some local beach diving. I just got back from Florida where I dove with a few scubaboard members, it was amazing. The wrecks, the reefs, the fish and the sharks - all some of the coolest things I have ever seen. I am free from now until when I start school at the end of August and would like to do some diving. If anyone goes regularly and wouldn't mind me tagging along, let me know! Thanks!
I've only been diving in New England for less than a year.
I'm sure there are some good beach diving spots in Connecticut that I don't even know about, so hopefully some others will post some helpful information on beach diving spots in Connecticut.
I'm sure you're aware that there are also some good lake diving options in Connecticut.
But in response to your question, here are the beach diving options I'm familiar with for Connecticut divers.
I've been to Stonington on the Connecticut shore. From West Hartford, I'd plan on a solid hour drive to the dive area, maybe a little more. I found it to be a mediocre beach dive, at best.
I've also been to the Rhode Island beach, in Jamestown, at a site known as Ft. Wetherill. I know it's not in Connecticut, but it's probably about a 1 1/2 hour drive from West Hartford. I think the extra driving beyond Stonington is worth it.
Again, I know it's not Connecticut, but Cape Ann in Massachusetts is a good beach diving destination. From West Hartford, it's a solid two hour drive. There are numerous beach diving options in Cape Ann and they are typically far far superior to the diving at Ft. Wetherill or Stonington. I've made a few of weekend day trips up there recently and it was well worth it.
Hopefully, if you post specifically where and when you'd like to dive, and that you need a buddy, you will receive some responses from the folks on this Board.
Here are a couple helpful websites with information on local diving options:
There is diving and you have to know were to go. Winter is the best time in the sound.
Calle Ed at Diver's Cove in Essex (860)767-1960. Tell him Chris reffered you. Every Wednsday they have a fun dive usually on the CT coast. You meet great people and they take a divemaster with them and also O2 I think. They are the freindliest shop in CT and have treated me with lots of respect in regards to dive orientation, gear sales, gear service and other things. Its through Divers Cove that I was able to continue shore diving in the area and I just did dive 201 (4 seasons) and I have only done 6 boat dives. All my diving has been in CT,RI, and MA.

There are a bunch of us going (warpig and I from scubaboard as well as some other local divers). We're meeting at Divers Cove at 5:00 and diving in Stonington. If anyone else is interested in going, just show up at the shop!
