First of all many thanks to Ryan for letting me borrow his baby... And to Chris for getting me straight and for being a fantastic guide/coach.
This was my first scooter dive.... Man those X-Scooters are sweet!
Dive Report:
We started out with an empty parking lot, lot's of sunshine and very small ankle biters. The view from the top of the Breakwater wall was great ... you could clearly see the bottom from the restrooms. Chris gave me a brief overview on the operation and procedures... we waded in and started a short surface ride to the bend.
At the bend Chris led using his scooter mounted compass with me at his 8 o clock position... my 10W HID beam barely visible at 50 ft due to the sun and 25 ft vis. During the ride out my mask kept flooding because I kept grinning going "This is soooo coool" in my mind Pretty soon we were at the barge and clipped of the scooters to fin around and get a closer look at the critters.
There was a group of medium sized rock fish hanging out on one end and a wolf eel in one of the holes....a couple of sea lemons and a white nudi with black spots... a male Kelp greening was also hiding within the timbers. After 15 mins of kicker we again hit the trigger off to the Metridium Fields.... that too no time and then we were zooming around the cauliflowers The usual suspects were present and most of the Mets were open. We then took a wide arcing path back to the beach thru middle reef and then ending up hanging out near the wall... did a few drills then a leisurely float to the top. Superb day to go diving. Too bad I don't have an UW camera this would have been a great day for wide angle shots of the Barge
Once again thanks to Ryan... I'm sure the next time will cost me dearly... This scooter buzz will wear off and I'll be looking to "score" another ride from someone
