Hey guys!

A large percentage of people here are current divers and have experienced, if not only heard about, the Giant Cuttlefish aggregation that happens every year at Whyalla's Port Lowly in South Australia, Australia.

For those of you who haven't heard of the Giant Cuttlefish, every year hundreds of these cuttlefish come and have a mass mating at one single location, Point Lowly, Whyalla. It is a wonderful experience for every diver to see.

Currently, the local government is threatening the delicate ecosystem of the area, as well as the surrounding waters of the Spencer Gulf. They are on the verge of pushing through a plan by BHP Mining to set up a Desalination plant right on the spot the giant cuttlefish come to mate - and I mean RIGHT on the spot, the pipe line will go through the middle of the area the cuttlefish use. Even though the main focus is the Giant Cuttlefish, other species will also be affected, such as squid, snapper, king prawns and eagle rays.

Dan Monceaux from the University of South Australia, he has done a great job in making an information website and is preparing a documentary whilst doing interviews with various knowledgeable people on what they think will happen if Point Lowly is developed on.

Please visit Cuttlefish Country to see the information and interviews that he has gathered:

Cuttlefish Country

He has also put together a petition site for all those that would like their voices recorded:

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/7/save-the-giant-australian-cuttlefish-upper-spencer-gulf/

Please take a moment of your time and sign the petition and have a look at Dan's Cuttlefish Country website.

The Giant Cuttlefish are so important to not only the divers that go to see them and the tourist dollars that are collected from the yearly event, but the future of the species should rate higher to the local government than the money slyly transferred by large companies such as BHP.

It is time that we all stood up to these stupid decisions the government keeps making before it is too late!
