    Tobermory?

Tell me about Tobermory, please. I've heard there's a preserve? Other than that, I know nothing and would like to know more about the diving there.

    Thanks In Advance!

The search function is your friend

    Search on Tobermory

Yes. You have to buy a tag, it costs $15 Cdn (about $12 US.) Lots of wrecks, lots of pretty rock formations. The water is cold. Not a lot of night life - it's a small town and now that it's after Labour Day, it's pretty well closed down.

Other than that, lots of previous info about Tobermory. Search away.

    We were there in June....

...made six dives in two days with G&S Divers (right across from the marina) in Tobermory. Dives are found in both protected and open waters and vary from 15 feet to greater than 200 if that is what you want. Many of the wrecks are found in a 'protection area' and are there to be enjoyed by all the divers who visit. One of our best dives was on the Niagara II, a 175 steel tanker turned 'sand sucker' that was sunk for the divers to enjoy a dozen or so year ago. The Niagara II has several decks you can penetrate and is in great shape. 78' to the deck, and believe me, the water is cold. Of the 9 divers on the boat, everyone was wearing drysuits, and for good reason!

There are several motels in town, and two dive shops as well as a couple resturants, a couple bars, a nice candy store and some places that make jewelery and sell knick-nacks. Make sure to stop at "Craigies" (right on the water) for one of the best white fish dinners I have had in a long while.

There are several campgrounds there in the area and good hiking as well. We usually stay at the "End of the Road" Campground, just a mile or so from downtown and find it very clean and well kept.

I really enjoyed our stay there earlier this year, and can't wait to go up again! If you have specific questions, drop me a line and I'll do my best to answer.

    Have a great time!!!

I dive in Tobermory several times a year (family cottage nearby), and plan to get at least two more trips in by the end on November.
The water is definitely cold, but I definitely enjoy the diving. The wrecks tend to take a lot of ice damage, and can be rather broken up; however, as frankenmuth_tom mentioned, the Niagara II is a great site.
Feel free to drop me a PM as well if you have any other questions.

    One LDS in our area...

...had a trip to Tobermory scheduled around Labor Day. I don't know if they went or not.

They had some decent information/links on their site.

    Sounds like fun.

    "No charge..."

    Hey Lori...

I've had a place in Tobermory and I've been diving there for almost 30 years. Feel free to PM me with any specific questions.

Don't let the time of year scare you off... while it can be a little lumpy on the lake in the fall, the water is downright balmy... OK, maybe balmy is too strong a word, but even wetsuit types can be comfy in the fall. There is a thermocline at about 60-70 feet, below which the temperature stays about 38-41 F year round, but hey, how long are you going to stay there anyway? At least your stops will be in warm water.

Both shops in town, G&S Watersports and Divers Den are owned by good friends of mine and both are great operations.

Socially, the town does a little sleepy at night, so start early. The Crow's Nest and Captain Tripps both offer pub atmosphere, possibly live music and decent food. There are several decent motels in town as well as camping. Nights can be cool though in the fall, so pack warm clothes.

I use Messenger as well, so if you want to chat, PM me and I'll send you my "handle"

    See you!
