ontario sites for some good diving

I have been looking into arranging a small trip for some buddies of mine, excuse the pun. I have access to a cottage in lions head and was wondering if there was some nice not too deep diving in the vacinity or should i go to toby and just make it my residence for the few days. I also am interested in other locations i am just trying to plan a nice dive for us and trying to keep the expense to a minimum. I am a university student and therefore broke.

    thanks for any input

I've talked to a couple of guys who dive Lion's Head area (mainly because they have other reasons to be there). My understanding is there's not a lot to see (no wrecks). Once fishing season opens there are a lot of boats out trolling, so exercise caution (make sure you have a good visible flag/float).

Heck, in Lion's Head? Just go the extra half hour and do the Lighthouse or the Tugs in Tobermory. They're reasonably fun shore dives. Max depth, what - 80 feet or so?

On the way back south, you may be interested in Cedar Hill, near Wiarton. It's remote, but a fun dive and popular with area divers. I'm there a lot because my in-laws live 5 minutes away. You can hit 130 feet there without too much trouble, but there are a few things to see (bicycles, planters, road signs, etc.) in the 60 foot and closer area.

Actually the wall at Lion's head in in excess of 160 feet. It's a ***** to walk or swim too as well. Go into the Marina office and you can look at their charts of it. Keep in mind the charts are in fathoms.

Heck, I can climb into the baot in my driveway and look at the charts for Lion's Head (we sailed there for the civic holiday weekend art show in 2002).
