guys i have made up my mind to check out the wrecks of the Philippines, as of the moment subic is on the list but i am sure there are much more lying around. battleships and galleons are what i am interested in. any info would be greatly appreciated.

coron... definitely the capital of wreck diving in the country... i think something like 8-12 wrecks ata within minutes of each other... they have freighters and a patrol craft ata... sorry no battleships (sayang ano?) but i think there's an old truck in one of the holds

i've done 1 coron wreck (olympia maru)... loooooooooooovvvveeeeeeeesssssss it! it's amazing, creepy, overwhelming... you name it

there's the don pedro off fortune island but i don't know if the public's allowed to dive it, the wreck being a source of archeological stuff and all that...

the dona marilyn is a favored tech dive... off cebu ata? dang i forgot...

there are a couple of wrecks in galera but i don't know how good they are... drew (happybuddha) would know

there should be more... hope this helps

Sipalay in Negros Occidental has 3 wrecks. It is a place seldom visited by Divers because of its remoteness. They 3 wrecks there MS jojo, SS Panay and a Filipino Wheat Freighter. MS Jojo and SS Panay are nice wrecks, there not as big as the warships in Subic but they are nice in the sense that you can still find gun shells and gas masks inside. All lie in about 40 meters to 45 meters depth but no currents. There is no exotic gas mix facilities there so you will have to dive it on air.

Both coron and subic have great wrecks but for me, coron wins hands down simply becuase the visibility was much better (at least during my visit). Plus, when you've had your fill of sunken metal you can still visit idyllic kayangan lake or dive in baracuda lake -no baracudas during my dive but the thermoclines were out of this world. El nido is also less than an hour away via sea-air if you wnt to extend your vacation.

But this is just my biased opinion. Subic is probably safer for tech because of their recompression facility and of course has better night life- if this is your kind of thing.

subic is defintely on my wish list by the end of this year, is it a regular wreck or do you need special training for this one? anyway i cant wait. ive only been to one wreck ever and it was only the mangled skeleton of a crappy barge:)

im organizing a group not sure when though. i will be with another bud of mine, anyone who wants to join me to go subic wreck diving, feel free to pm me thanks.

PM me your email, I'll send you the coron wreck diving details. I may have tentative plans to go up to subic in november (not october anymore). Crossing my fingers. If I do, USS New York is a definite must see.

Do any of you know if any of the ships sunk during the battle of Leyte Gulf (in and around Surigao and San Bernadino straits) are accessible? Now those would be some incredible wrecks to dive if they're not all too deep.

uncle rick, i have been thinking of this for quite some time now. the battle of leye gulf was the biggest aerial/naval battle in history and there were literally thousands of planes and hundreds of ships sunk. despite this i dont know anyone that has attempted to check em out. there are literally thousands of virgin wrecks waiting to be discovered. only thing i can think of why it hasnt been done is the depth of the wrecks.
