Anyone been to the Subic Yacht Club or the Casino over in the Lengenda Hotel (I think)?

Change of plans and now my friends are not going to Boracay for the long weekend but are thinking of going up to Subic for a day trip. Looks like one of my friend's gf has connections with the Subic Yacht Club and can get us in. How is it? Although I've been to Subic for diving a number of times, I've never really ventured into the freeport.

Also, is the casino in the freeport worthwhile to visit?

And for non divers, where is the best beach around Subic/ Olongapo other than Baloy beach?

Lastly, how's the Subic Bay Golf Course?

Anyways, good for me, now I can sneak my dive gear along and get some wreck diving in again... :D

SBYC - if you can get the biggers suites (with view of the marina) with jacuzzi then it will be worthwhile. that said, generally the rooms have a nice homey feel...just what you would expect with higher end hotels.

they've got 2 pools, tennis courts, and a gameroom (bowling & pool is offered). food at the restos are good as opposed to great but they do have good variety...and it's a tad pricey of course.

they also have all the usual watersports thingies like jetski's, waverunners, etc. (i think they also offer scuba not so sure though)

beaches...i don't know where exactly is baloy beach, is that within cubi point? you could also try camayan beach resort just beside ocean adventure. http://www.oceanadventure.com.ph/camayan beach resort/camayan beach resort.htm

hey thanks Jon

edit: baloy beach is in barrio barretto where Johan's and Blue Rock are (I guess that's north of the freeport? Zambales?)

ah yes that's probably zambales already. there's this small beach resort along the road to cubi/ocean adventure - officer's beach (?)...it's usually where local peeps hang out but there's nothing but benches, 4 shower rooms and a snack bar there. camayan cove would probably produce better sunset shots :D

the casino it at legenda hotel - 5 minutes drive from SBYC. also i've noticed a lot of new bars there along the legenda area when i was there last month.

Yeah I think that's the officers' beach. Seen it when I was diving around that area. Anyways, thanks for the info.

lastly, check out the street parallel to the the waterfront (back of legenda)...i'm sure you'll find some establishments there that may match your...uhhhmmm...sabang trips

I've got my trip in December almost 100% booked, looking forward to exploring the wrecks and the area - will be interested to hear how your trip is Pak.
Thanks - F

really??? hmm... I thought those types of establishments were kicked out of the freeport? I guess the place is going to hell in a handbasket ever since Mayor Gordon got booted...

Was there not too long ago. Camayan was nice but it is a drive from the main gate. Rooms are nice, no fridge, diving right there at the resort. When I was there it rained non stop and diving was out of the question. Legenda is nice. Casino right in the hotel and there is another one right across the street from it. There is another part of Legenda on the way to Camayan right before the old magazine and the jungle reserve. Couple of other hotels on the beach some nicer than others. Few rastaurants, bars and the like also on the water front. Not much else to the free port zone. Saw there was some dive sites all over the old base. Toward the end of the water front area there is another hotel that I personally think is better than Camayan and is cheaper than Legenda. Also couple buddies went to town on the casinos and walked away a couple grand cheaper.
For me it was like a trip down memory lane.
Hope this helps ya.

the new hotel? the one with the lighthouse thing? yes i remember being handed a brochure while entering the freeport...their rates are very good. starting at around PHP2,500 i think. a/c, cable tv in their rooms. forgot the name though.
