There is a good chance I will be working in Subic Bay in January. I will have a few Sundays off, I am projected to stay at the Legenda Hotel. Is anyone familiar with any dive operation in the area that they could recomend?

I've heard of these two. I have no experience with either, but here's what I THINK I know.

Run by a crusty, no-nonsense former commercial diver specializing in wreck diving. He's been around a long time. I'll be diving here in December!

Don't know much, but here's a link! Philippine Divers Paradise users have been oh so helpful so expect them along soon with some more helpful information. Hope this gives you somewhere to start.

JDog, I don't have the links but try googling "Subic" and the following words "Master Dive" and "Scuba Shack". I believe those two are INSIDE the freeport whereas Blue Rock and Johan's are located nearby in Barrio Barretto (just a short drive outside of the Freeport, maybe around 5min?)

PG based TechAsia runs a tech wreck course in Subic but I forget which dive shop they use in the freeport.

if you're serious about tech/ wreck diving then Johan's (i.e., doubles, nitrox, trimix, etc...). If you're just looking for more casual diving then blue rock and the others will probably do.

You might want to read *Floater*'s experience with Johan before making any decisions. His style may not suit all styles of diving.

Halthron, there are probably many divers who have been to Johan's who didnt' have ANY problems with Johan's shop/ style. I've been to Johan's, and yes he has a quirky personality, but overall he's a nice guy. Heck, it's his shop and yes he has his rules. Personally I didn't find any them too unreasonable.

I really don't see why you keep raising "floater's" bad experience everytime Johan's is mentioned. Why don't you link the posts by Bruce, aka Andibk, a seasoned TECH / RB INSTRUCTOR and someone who's done some serious tech diving in Asia (such as the recent expedition to Leyte to search for a Japanese battleship). He had been to Johan's and pretty much had positive things to say.
