I am contemplating doing Advanced Nitrox/Deco Procedures and am seriously thinking of getting dive specific insurance. Does anybody have any experience with the local DAN office or does anybody have a better alternative?
Thanks in advance.
on taking dive insurance , do make sure the dive insurance you are taking would cover for the dive activity and training you are undertaking. IT needs to be critically considered and discussed on Dive insurance coverage. Tho there are other insurance coverages other than DAN.
Disclosure. I too had DAN insurance when i was diving quite actively every week (literally on a weekly basis, weekdays included) i also had another insurance prior to DAN. i clarified with my non DAN insurance or rather i declared to the insurance company that i am actively taking up scuba diving and taking up training courses on scuba diving.
i had to do this as prior to taking up scuba diving , my insurance agent had me declare that i was doing mountain trekking(prior sport before discovering scuba). hence premiums and coverages needed to be adjusted .
the difference tho was the other insurance was Life coverage and DAN is medical assistance (hopefully, but how can you coordinate with DAN when you are unconscious if they require you to coordinate first with DAN SEAP BEFORE coverage
Traiining for scuba activities is the right path to take in avoiding accidnets and Planning and diving your dive plan according to your training level and comfort zone improves your chances of having safe dive activities. Advanced Nitrox greatly improves your level of safety (tip : just don't push the limits if you are in for recreational scuba diving) its really not worth it considering being involved in a dive accident.
SAFE DIVING, (when uncomfortable, abort the dive in a safe manner by signalling - problem with equalization ! no one can question you on that !!!
For my two cents, my wife and I signed up with diveassure last november for the insurance and thinking of joining DAN as well. I read on the another thread how DAN has a non-profit(medical research) and for-profit(insurance) side. I remember I compared the coverage of diveassure against DAN's and liked the diveassure better.
