Leaving Tampa May 6th,

Not sure if I should book the scuba excursions though carnival or go direct. Any Suggestions, referrals?

John

John,
My girlfriend and I did the same cruise in December. We did the shore excursion dives in Cozumel and Roatan thru Carnival. We had an absolute blast. The DMs were friendly and knowledgable and took us to some unbelievable spots. The only downside was how expensive they were. I heard other people on the ship talk about booking their own trips and saving quite a bit of money. All in all, i thought it was worth the price.

I've been on two cruises with Carnival, Eastern on the Glory, Western on the Dream. Dove with the Carnival tour groups on both.

My reason with booking with the cruise line is this....they guarantee that the boat will not leave port without you if you book with them. If you choose a private dive operator, and have a 10 times better dive experience, and save maybe $25, and go to maybe a little better dive location, and miss your boat coming back, think of how that will screw up your trip and how much that will cost.

All of my Carnival dive trips were great. I say book with them, go diving, come back to the ship, and go to the casino that evening and play craps. I can tell you how to win if you don't know how.

Have a great cruise and dive vacation.

Darrell

Thanks Unseen and Darrell
I'm dragging all my own gear down, so really didn't want to end up not being able to dive, due to Not enough divers on the cruise. But I guess I'll research a couple of the dive shops and if Carnival can't deliver I can make some last minute arrangements.

The ship moors off Belize so it's better to go with the cruise operator as they'll pick you up off the ship. It's Hugh Parkey's - they have a good rep.

On Roatan the cruise operator is Anthony's Key Resort. They'll pick you up and shuttle you to their north side location. Another option is Barefoot Divers at Barefoot Caye - they're the closest dive operator to Mahogany Bay - the cruise port. It will cost you $20pp. for a taxi to get there. We liked Barefoot Divers (non-cruise) they do small groups and have good sites nearby to choose from. dive packages|cruise shippers|full valet service

Subway Watersports also has a cruise program, IDK any details.

On Grand Cayman the cruise operator is Don Fosters. Another option might be to book thru Lobster Pot Dive Center. There's also a couple of nearby shore dives - Eden Rock is 1/3 mi. from the cruise port and Sunset House just 5mins. south by cab. From either you'll see your ship moored out in the harbor.

Going on the legend Apr 8, We are going with Sea Sports in Belize which was recommended by divers in this forum. Carnival did not offer any excursion for our cruise, not sure why, Roatan my wife wants to do the Dolphin Snorkel, we are thinking about diving again in Grand Cayman. But will let you know how Sea Sports in Belize is, so far they have been great communicating and they say they will have us back in time, they have plenty of positive reviews on the internet. If we go Grand Cayman, i'll let you know how it was.

Thanks Steve, Tommy
I see scuba excursions for all 4 stops for the May 6 Sailing. But we shall see how that works out, actually havn't booked it yet, plan on booking first week of April.

You can book yourself to save a few $ but imo its not worth the risk if u get left.
I'm leaving on the Dream first week of June , same ports.

Still have to figure out which ports I wanna dive in except for Cozumel - wife won't let me dive there. Lol.
Says we have to shop. Boo
so what u guys think? Costa maya- roatan- or Belize..... pick 2

We just got back from this same cruise and had a blast and I am sure you will, too!

Evoixmr- miss diving in Coz to shop??? Can't you do both???

We dove with Scuba with Alison in Cozumel and West End Divers in Roatan- both were great and we'd dive with them again for sure. West End Divers gets an extra special nod because they will pick you up from the port. We had to take a 5 min cab to meet up with Alison at the marina in Coz, but there were no issues there. We got back with plenty of time and didn't worry about missing the ship at all.

My husband dove with the Carnival excursion (Hugh Parkey's) in Belize because they picked him up right from the ship so he didn't have to tender and he says they were fine, there 20-30 people on the boat, but they split up into groups of 5-6 for the dives. I didn't dive in Belize because I went on a cave tubing excursion with my family.

Sadly, we missed Costa Maya due to strong winds. This is somewhat ironic because they entire time I was planning the cruise, I was worried about missing Roatan because it's missed a lot more often then any other port on the itinerary.

If you have questions, I'm happy to answer them :)

May have to push my cruise to May 20th sailing, I may have additional family members joining. Sadly they do not dive, but I'll enjoy their company between Ports :) lol

Sounds Like you had a great time Kryssa. Good to hear
