you have posted on several boards this same mantra.... give it up...and oh BTW...Roatanman was going to Roatan before you were even a glimmer in your daddy's eye

Really? I'm surprised to hear this.

What would you consider the Caribbean's 8-10?

OK I'll bite,WHY did you not like it? Don't give me anything like "it sucked", be specific...the food was bad, the rooms were dirty or the DM's were dangerous, none of which is true I might add.
So far Doc has been right on about CCV and I was there last week so any information I have is very current. For what it's worth, to have some credibility on this board you need to be here for some time and be an active member. I see you are new with few post. A new member who post "excessive" comments, good or bad about anyone or place with general statements is likely to be dismissed as having some agenda. Doc and myself are long time members of the board. I respect Docs opinions and hope he mine. SO, please tell us what you did not like about CCV.

CCV isn't for everyone -- especially new divers that just want to see lots of "big" creatures to talk about with their non-diving friends. However, in the four years I've been on Scubaboard, I'd have to say that Roatanman's comments have been "spot on"(sp?) with my experiences in Carribean. For me, I find CCV to be the most relaxing vacation spot I've found. I'm sorry you did not enjoy it.

You know it just goes to show you... When my wife and I were there last we went up to the lounge above the bar to marvel at the view. It was the morning of our departure. We had just spend the best vacation week we had ever had. I struck up a conversation with a lady sitting on the couch and she went on and on about how terrible the place was. The waves were too big, her room was not just right, the visibility was bad and on and on. We walked away shaking our heads. I am going there for my second time next week and it will be difficult to choose another location for a dive vacation. We love the place.

Tons of info available on tripadvisor as well. I've been 6 times and going back in August with friends who also been there bunches. Bring deet and use it. And dive dive dive!

Coco really doesn't change all that much in the ways that count (well at least since 1993 ...!). And little improvements keep happening over time. New owners took over some years ago and they did nothing to affect the character and continued to make little improvements that are all good. The owners are remote and leave things in the very capable hands of Liz and Doug to run the office and maintenance respectively. The dive operation is a well oiled machine, and the staff is just the best.

Just know that Coco is really laid back. If there's a non-diver, he/she will be bored to tears - unless their idea of a great time is reading for a week in a hammock and listing to divers and their stories.

Sometimes people get brought on a vacation by their husbands and suddenly find out that the three cocktail dresses and matching pumps will not see much use at CCV. Then again, we watched one couple get "dressed" for dinner each night. They dined late and always had two bottles of wine from the case they brought along.

If I were to take Herself on an exotic honeymoon trip (sit down dining and some wine list) with one or two dives a day, and the only place I could pick from would be Roatan, likely I would take her to AKR. The most elegant property on Roatan is undoubtedly Paya Bay but there isn't a semblance of any resort or dive services there. In that vein, there are some exotic luxury properties being built near AKR~ yet they have no dive services in house. It will all change.

At CCV, I have seen a lady all dolled up, sit fuming while waiting for her husband to return from an evening dive. At CCV it doesn't take much for you to look like a participant in a pimps and ho's party. One denizen would show up for dinner in his lycra suit and work boats, thus earning him the loving name of "Boots". Makeup, lipstick, eyeliner, etc., causes raised eyebrows. Heels cause heads to swivel. On departure morning, I find it hard to recognize people, all cleaned up and wearing clothes- quite confusing.

I watched a lady show up with two cases of bottled water as checked baggage. Or wearing flea collars around their ankles. On more than one occasion, I have seen soon-to-be ex-wives show up and hide out for a few weeks. If you don't want to be noticed, CCV is the place to be. Hollywood stars have shown up there and they get bit by the sand flies just like me. The Honduran divemasters could care less if you're on ABC primetime. And that's why these people come to CCV. After two days everyone smells and looks the same anyway.

CCV requests that you show up for meals with a minimum bathing suit/t-shirt deal, but the ladies are excepted from the shirt rule. For one annual group, Wednesday is Naked Day. I have always been napping during that post-lunch celebration.

We all take snapshots in our minds. If it rained the week you are there, it's a place that has a lot of rain. Same with the visibility or waves. Weather conditions change- this is why I never understood the goofy practice of Undercurrent that included weather descriptions during a vacation stay without stating what month of the year it happened to occur.

Having been to almost all of the AI properties of Roatan, I know well that there is no one place for everyone. Go to CCV if you want a lot of diving. At the same time, I see any number of hard core divers beating their heads against the wall at resorts that are more balanced towards leisure... and they still know that they love the place they're at. You can't know what you do not know.

Tell me when naked lunch happens. I want to be submerged with no chance of seeing it.
