Took 2 regs in to be serviced. $60 each. Ok no problem.

one of them is literally less than 1yr old. Less than 10 dives on it. Well maintained. Just figured id take it in for the hell of it since we were brining in my wifes. Hers is an older reg, Scubapro. Supposedly these guys are the only ones that can service them.

Picked up the regs and had a $258 bill! My wife paid it and brought them home. Im livid. I can understand a few of the charges but does this not seem usery???

Labor $120 each
Hose protector $8
1st Stage kit 9000-01 $25
2nd stage kit 9000-13 $10
2nd stage 9000-13 $14
M15 kit #10.600.041 $25
R190 kit 11.300.045 $12
D400 Kit 11.012.045 $21
Comfort Mouth piece $8.50
Misc shop supplies $5

All this for a Scubapro D400 and a Titan Micra

Now I dont want to be off base here but would it not be a normal protocol to call the customer before adding in all these types of items when you told them when they dropped of the regulators "It will be $60 each plus the cost of the mouthpiece".

I dont want to be off base but is it not protocol to CALL before doing this type of work that is this expensive??

Thanks. Im finding this might be fairly average price. Hence my reason for ASKING. The scubapro was not in warranty and had not been service in a few years. Apparently now it is back in warranty and next time we SHOULD only have to pay for the labor charge.

Thanks guys. This is my first time ever taking anything in to be serviced.

sounds fair to me, dive it then make your decision.
thats two reg sets i'm thinkin.
happy diving

That only adds up to $128.50...was the remaining $130 for labor charges?

I was wondering the same thing! Also, does your specific reg manufacturer not have a "free parts" deal?

We pay $49 for 1st and 2nd stage plus parts, which are free since we have Zeagles. Two reg sets are $98 total.

That is actually cheap. The first stage kits for my regs are 30.00 each and I need three of those. Plus 12 for the seconds- 4 of those. Then there's my sherwood kits at 12.50 each stage-2 seconds and three firsts. My Mk17 R 190 is under warranty so the kits are free. Exept for the Scubapro I don;t pay labor for the others as I do them myself. I also have them set up so annual service falls 6 months later for half of them. Lets me save a few bucks. Three are due in December. As for labor, alot of shops in this area charge 25-35 per stage for labor.

Here's a repair shop with a great reputation....

Malibu Dive Repair

Compare the prices and you decide.

All the best, James

nothing wrong with those prices... but how do you come up with 250 bucks... thats only like 130 or so?

I'm curious what you 'think' a good fair price would be and why.

Sounds like it -- but you won't have been 'taken' until you go back and protest the bill. If they stand fast, contact the Better Business Bureau, go to ripoff.com, and tell us here.
