Should I sell/trade my Atomic reg?

I have an Atomic Z2 which has been with me for a year and I have used it for around 20 dives. I have had no complaints and breathing is pretty easy. I was thinking of selling it and getting an Aqua Lung Legend or Apex. I really have no reason other than the desire to own something new.

Does this sound like a good idea? I understand that Atomics are top of the line regs. Would I be owning and inferior product if I sell / trade the atomic for Legend or Apex?

Thanks in advance -

S-H

It sounds like you're looking for something to do. Rather than buy a new reg that's a lot like what you have, head over to vintagedoublehose and get hooked on old double hose regs. That'll keep you occupied and spending!

....next time, just leave the little price tag on your new reg, that way it will feel new longer......

Atomic Make great product, but that being said so does Aqualung and Apeks, I personaly Own a Legend LX Supreme and it's a Beautiful reg, I have a ATX200 that I have used from time to time as well.

The Z2 is the "entry level" ( as much as I can say that) of the Atomics, you could also consider upgrading it with the Swivel hose like the B2, maybe a new Colour Face plate, cold water Kit... ect.

The Legend would be an upgrade from the Z2 but not a huge one (depending what one you get) but the Big benefit is the ACD (auto closure device) that protects the 1st stage. this feature is exclusive to the Aqualung product line.

Apeks Also make a great Product, though they tend to cater more to the Technical side.

if you like your atomic I would keep it and maybe dress/pimp it up a bit and that should keep you happy for a bit, Or go find a new computer like the Uwatec Galileo Sol with every bell an whistle imaginable.

You can also upgrade the hoses to Miflex.

Atomics makes a great product. So does AL/Apex. It would probably be a slight upgrade but not a huge one.

It sounds like a stoopid idea! A backup reg is NOT a foolish idea, so rather than selling one to buy another, just buy a second.

Or here is a good idea.... send me all your money, and then you won't be tempted to buy new stuff for the sake of new stuff!

We already have 4 regs between me and my wife. I don't think we need a fifth. My comment was tongue in cheek. As a benchmark, I bought a $600 Zeagle reg in new condition for $150 back in April (literally, never been in the water).

If it were me, I would stick with your Atomic since at best you will get a third of what you have invested in it. If you are really mad at your money, just go out and buy the reg you want and keep the Z2 as a backup for the day that things go to hell in a hand basket.
