:doctor: I am getting my very first set of regs...I'm looking now at 2 options. It'll have to be MK25/S-600(Scubapro) or Xtreme(Poseidon). One concern, however, is the big difference in price between the two.
Can someone advice me the pros and cons of each?

He was diving Poseidens and really wanted the ScubaPro regs.

He is a recreational diver and he has had a lot of problems getting prompt service.

So if you are a recreational diver, you may want to get the Scuba Pro regs unless you have a good source for Poseidon maintenance.

There is a review of the Poseidon at

Good luck,
Peter Doege

PS: Whatever you decide about their regs, Poseidon makes great gloves!

Hmmmm....Singapore, huh???

I would stick to something you can get serviced over there...

Check with your LDS, see what they can service...

I had three MK25 & S600 Regs I had to detune them for our cold water, They free flowed when ever the water temps got below 45 degrees Most of the diving I do, the bottom temps are on average around 40 degrees.... I just got tired of working with them..... don't get me wrong they are a great reg when they are used in warmer water.......
Switched over to Xstream Durations and have been nothing but totally satisfied with them....... even when I am working They have plenty of air to spare.
I too would also see about servicing in your area though, you can't go wrong with either one of these,They both are great regs in every respect just that the SP was a little more finicky with colder water temps.

Hi guys...thanks for your advice...here are some of my profiles

I've been diving for 4yrs now with abt 100dives. I dive mostly in warm waters, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia. But I do travel to cold water areas(eg Tasmanina) once in a while. Bascially, I like to travel and explore different dive sites.

Poseidon and SP both have 1(and only) authorised distributor here..yearly servicing is qouted at SGD120-150, that means abt USD210- 260.

OUCH!!!!

Thats gotta hurt... you might wanna look at a Sherwood reg then. If they have them over there.. They can take YEARS of abuse before needing service. And, it should be much cheaper than SP and POS to service...

Sherwood piston first stage and a very uncomplicated second stage. Parts should cost only about $12-15 for service kits. I dont know how much they would charge for labor... It would almost make sense to have it shipped to the US for service every other year, or so. Shipping cant be that expensive. I dont know if you have to pay any duties or anything else when it comes back to you. I would definitely be looking for something a little cheaper to service. Especially if you plan on staying there...

GOod Luck...

What about Apeks?

ScubaPro is good but so expensive. The same can be said of Poseidon but they are the cold/ice reg. to have.

With the Apeks you can have a low hassel sealed diaphram that is usually cheaper than the ScubaPro.

I don't like Sherwoods for breathing qualities but for indestructabliity they are great.

I would second LUBOLD8431 comments that a Sherwood is a good choice for low maintence. The only problem is there is a overtone of not servicing your reg. every year, which if you dive a lot, is not a good idea-especially with a pistion in salt water.

Which is more the ScubPro or the Poseidon? What about a used Cyklon? They can take a lot of punishment.
