I'm using a Mares MV Octopus as my Alternate Air Source and I was wondering if buying a RiteSource Reg was worth it.

Would the loss of the octo and the better streamlining be worth $100 extra?

Believe it or not, the choice of AAS configuration can be a contentious subject, with strong opinions about AIRII type (inline-octo/LPI combo) systems vs regular second-stage AAS.

If you have the patience to do some reading, there are currently two active threads dealing with the debate:

http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/advanced-scuba-discussions/389252-why-do-we-hate-air2.html

http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/advanced-scuba-discussions/389475-comparative-debate-aas-configuration-options.html

The gist of the threads is that the procedures used with an AIRII are sufficiently different from a regular octopus, that they require further education. AIRII is an acceptable option, providing that the diver takes the time and effort to review an effective air-sharing procedure with the new equipment and ensures that this procedure is practiced regularly, becoming an ingrained, instinctive response (which all emergency drills should be).

Hmm, I didn't no they had such a big debate about this! :shocked2:
Thanks for the links, I think I'll be doing further research on the Air2 before buying one. I'll stick to my MV Octo for now since I haven't really encountered any problems with it, "Don't fix what isn't broken" I guess.

Right now, the Air2 has more cons than pros and I'm still a novice so I might stick to the MV Octo until I get more diving experience.

Thanks again DevonDiver! :D
