Question Any Scuba badges in scouts?

I am a life scout and have been certified for about 9 months. The only badge that i can find is a patch to put on your bathing suit. I am not sure if you can wear it on your uniform or sash. Does any one know if there are patches or badges that i can put on my uniform?

dolphinmanmiami,

None that I'm aware of. During my Scouting career from 1981 to 1994 no merit badges that were SCUBA related were available. That said, no badge is available for display on your uniform or Merit Badge Sash.

The Scuba award is kind of like the Mile Swim award.

You could wear the scuba BSA patch (which you completed the requirements for during your certification) as a temporary patch on your right uniform pocket. You can wear ANY patch in that position.

Nope, ran into the same thing a few months ago. we should get people together on scubaboard and get them to create a scuba merit badge, i don't see why thy couldn't they already have some pretty weird merit badges, and scuba's awesome so i think it would be a good idea.

I talked with the folks responsible for the Scuba BSA award. They are working on getting a scuba merit badge approved by BSA. Scuba BSA is basically PADI Discover Scuba Diving without the open water dive (it requires learning the skills needed for the accompanied open water dive but the only water session is done in confined water). The merit badge would include the knowledge development and skills required for, and doing the open water dive.

A little late for me also... Too bad, I would have gone for it.
I sure hope they can get one started... I wonder what the requirements will be?

hi - we have a group of older scouts going for their OW cert right now.

Yeah - I could not figure out why no Scuba MB,
and yet there is the Aviation MB.
I would look at those reqs, and compare them to the Intro to Scuba class...

After thinking about the Scuba MB - I think the biggest hurdle will be cost.
I can't think of any other MB that has such a high cash investment...
Most MB reqs are just visit, discuss, explain, etc... vs actually "doing".
And the doing part of a basic Scuba MB should really just involve the "free"
demo classes.... vs the entire instructor led class & pool time.

Again, I'll use the Aviation or Motorboating MB as a parallel....
http://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php?title=Aviation
http://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php?title=Motorboating

and then - why is the Scuba "award" not already the real reqs for a MB ??
http://usscouts.org/advance/boyscout/scuba.html
it seems pretty comprehensive compared to other MB's
