This is a video that was on the Panama City Dive Charters facebook page. Last Sunday, a group of divers were harvesting Lionfish off the coast of Apalachicola, Fl. and this Great White shows up to check things out.

Great white was also caught and released by several fisherman while they were surf fishing in Panama City back in March

Once in a lifetime catch made in Gulf of Mexico

The King of the Sea! How awesome would it be to see one while diving and in the northern Gulf, no doubt. Very, very rare in those waters.

I get the feeling that they aren't "very, very rare" in those waters - two of OCEARCH's tagged great whites, Katharine and Betsy, visited the Gulf last year and Betsy pinged last month in the vicinity of the Middle Grounds. A number of divers and boaters have reported sightings over the past few years; it seems at least some of the Atlantic coast great whites are seasonal visitors.

Still, that's an encounter few divers have. A friend of mine came across one in Jupiter last month; "jealous as all hell" would be a good description of my reaction to hearing that story.
