First post on the forum. I'm trying to locate a group that is open to the idea of being out of the cage with the Great White. It's something that I am interested in doing, and have been wanting to do since I started diving with sharks.
I started freediving in Diego Garcia in 2006. I started diving with sharks at that time, as well. Not by my choosing, mind you, but it's what I encountered on my freedive. Since then I have been in the water with over 50 different species of sharks, without incident.
That said, I understand the risks, and am not interested in attempting this on my own. Is the best option with this to assemble my own team of divers, medics, etc., or is there a company around that will let me sign a waiver and go sans cage?
Thanks for all of the replies. Currently, I'm in Iraq. I've been in touch with the operators in S Africa, and they're saying that an underwater research permit (photography, vid, research, etc.) is required. I'll go anywhere to make this happen, so location isn't the issue. It's getting the right people together to do it with.
As far as Farallon's go.... Yeah, there's that whole visibility, not wanting to do it alone, issue.
