    Shark feeding behavior question

I snorkeled and dived with reef and Lemon sharks and sting rays in Tahiti last month and I never once saw them feed on the abundant number of fish around them. However, they were very happy to feed from the fish thrown to them during feeding tours. Why do they get so excited by dead fish when there are live ones all around them?

Try to catch a live fish with your mouth on your next dive!

Seriously, it's easier & requires less energy expenditure to go after the dead ones.
